𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀; 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱.

We’ve spent decades rewarding capital gains over hard work, slashing support systems, and blaming trade deals for the damage. (Sidebar: Ask yourself what happened to the wealth gap during this same period.)

Yes, some industries were hit by offshoring, but the bigger betrayal came from policies that prioritized profits over people.

Now, we slap on high tariffs to “kill” free trade only to turn around and celebrate new deals that look a lot like…more free trade.

It’s political theater.

The real fix? Tax labor and capital fairly, reinforce the social contract, and stop pretending tariffs alone will rebuild what policy neglect destroyed.

Walk on point…

𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀.

Take Tesla: it built its empire on California’s back public roads, massive subsidies, top-tier universities, and a world-class legal system.

Then, once it hit escape velocity, it bolted to a low tax state that didn’t invest a dime in its rise.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻. 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀. 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲.

It’s not capitalism. It’s opportunism baked into the system.
